Holmebrook Valley Park Lake

Highlight • Trail

Holmebrook Valley Country Park has a lake, a cafe, picnic benches, public amenities, lots of footpaths and a cycle path.
The site was reclaimed from an opencast mining site in 1995 and is now the biggest area of parkland in Chesterfield.

Lovely place to pause and enjoy the peace. Good surface and easily head off for adventure around Linacre Reservoirs from here and beyond

On the East Side of Holme Brook Valley Park there is a path that goes straight up the hill this is a great sprint to test fitness as it gets steeper the higher up you get. Just before you join the tarmac path there is a trail off to the right. This is apparently an MTB Trail. Having ridden it I would say avoid it. It has some potential but whoever built it didn't have the skills to create any flow and it is too short. Nice idea, shame about the execution.

The old "donkey racecourse" route has been developed into a large park with several cycle paths around it. Good place to get used to mountain biking as it has some climbs and descents and a loose gravel surface. There is a hidden "mountain bike route" but it is best avoided as it is poorly maintained and badly designed.
