Llanddwyn Beach

Highlight • Viewpoint

Cycle through the trees of Newborough and you reach Traeth Llanddwyn, a long sandy beach. Located at the southern-most point of Anglesey, this is a wonderful area with coniferous woodland, coastal marshes and sandy dunes. I could imagine this would be a lovely place for a swim too (although when I was there, it was raining).

At low tide, you can walk to Llanddwyn Island, a stone's throw from the beach.

Llanddwyn is a pristine golden beach backed by wild sand dunes. It boasts spellbinding views of Snowdonia, Caernarfon and the Llyn Peninsula. There's a path from the beach to the nature reserve at Llanddwyn Island.

Tŵr Mawr Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

Built in 1873, this gorgeous lighthouse no longer shines but it's still a magnificent find when you're walking in the area. Painted bright white, it shares its tapered architecture with Anglesey windmills, and has a conical roof. The lighthouse guards the outer entrance to the Menai Strait, sitting at the southern tip of Llanddwyn Island.
