Cutty Sark

Highlight • Historical Site

There is a lot to see within minutes of here, so it’s a great place to start exploring Greenwich. There is the Cutty Sark, the restored British tea clipper, the Old Royal Naval College, the Maritime Museum, Queens House and, if you walk a bit further, Greenwich Park and the historic Royal Observatory. From Cutty Sark looking north, you can see the modern buildings of Canary Wharf, the financial district, and you can cross the river using the Greenwich Foot Tunnel as well. Getting here is easy, take the DLR from Bank or Canary Wharf, or the Clipper to Greenwich Pier. There are lots of restaurants and shops around.

From here at Deptford Wharf, looking east, there are expansive, beautiful views of the River Thames. This view often includes the striking skyline of Canary Wharf, a major business district filled with modern skyscrapers. The contrast between the industrial remnants of Deptford and the sleek, modern buildings of Canary Wharf provides a dynamic visual experience.

Looking across the Thames, you can see the Greenwich Peninsula with the iconic dome of the O2 Arena (formerly the Millennium Dome). This view highlights both the historical significance of the Thames as a working river and its current role as a hub for entertainment and leisure.

Further west along the river, you can see the South Bank and, in the distance, the City of London with its famous skyline, including landmarks such as The Shard and St. Paul’s Cathedral. These views are particularly stunning during sunset when the city is bathed in golden light.
