Porthcothan Beach

Highlight • Beach

Like so many of Cornwall's bays, what looks like a small beach at high tide opens out into a huge place when the tide goes out. There are lots of rock formations to explore at low tide with a smaller inlet to the south west also opening up to become part of the beach when the sea is out. Do check tide times carefully though before walking along the beach so you don't get cut off by the rising water.

Trescore Islands

Highlight • Beach

At low tide a beautiful lagoon is revealed between the cliffs and the islands. A magical place for a swim on calm days.

Pentire Steps Beach

Highlight • Beach

Next to the very well known Bedruthan Steps you will find Pentire Steps. Between the two sandy coves is Diggory Island, take a careful look at it as it has a natural arch within its rock. You can get down to the beach here but it is a rocky scramble. Better to admire from above or walk from Bedruthan Steps at low tide, but do check tide times carefully so you don't get cut off by the rising water.

View of the Bedruthan Steps

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Bedruthan steps is a wonderfully scenic stretch of rocky coastline and sandy beach. The cliff top views from the South west Coast Path are great. Some of the beaches can be accessed at low tide via steep paths. The National Trust manage this area of coast and run a cafe.

Bedruthan Steps Rock Formations

Highlight • Viewpoint

Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps comprise an iconic stretch of coastline synonymous with shipwrecks and smugglers. The granite rocks that are dotted across the beach are stepping stones for the Giant Bedruthan, according to legend. You can access the golden sands of the beach via a steep and narrow set of steps cut into the cliffs at low tide.

View of Bedruthan Steps

Highlight • Viewpoint

A breathtaking rocky coast. A narrow staircase leads to the extensive sandy beach at low tide. Swimming is prohibited due to strong currents. A paid parking and campsite is available for visitors. For a visit, we recommend a look at the tide calendar.

Porth Mear Cove

Highlight • Beach

You can only get to Porth Mear Cove by foot so it's a quiet corner of the Cornish Coast. On windy days, it's often sheltered here so is an ideal lunch or snack stop. Dogs are allowed all year round and its a fab spot for rock pooling.
