Pacifica Beach Boulevard North

Highlight (Segment) • Beach

The beautiful black sand beach along Pacifica's waterfront is often barely visible under crushing waves. With sea level rise and the unsustainable construction so close to the waterline the entire neighborhood regularly gets whipped with salt water splashing high over the rock-lined seawall, particularly at high tide on windy days throughout the year. The attractive Boulevard and sidewalk get rebuilt constantly. Is it tenacity or crazy?

Pacifica Pier

Highlight • Bridge

This 1,140-foot pier is a great place to get up close to the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the best places to watch for grey whales and humpbacks lunge feed as their tales slap the water. If you're lucky, you can catch one breaching for an unforgettable photo.

11.6 km

The edge of the steep cliffs, high above the Pacific waves crushing on the beach far below, is constantly eroding, so there are no houses here (any more ...). The small park with bike trail follows the edge for the length of a block.

Esplanade landslide cliffs

Highlight • Beach

The free ocean views are back since the buildings blocking the crumbling cliffs fell off or were removed.

The view from the junction at Palmetto and Westline shows a part of the beach. It's worth continuing on Westline to the end for even better views

Highlight • Viewpoint

The top of the steep hill is a good spot for a break and take in the sweeping coastal community view to the south.
