Angerturm (Anger Tower) Erfurt

The almost five-meter-high construction consists of an arch-shaped staircase, which expansively carries a small glazed warden's cabin. The tower was built in 1961 on the central Old Town Square Anger at the intersection to the station and the castle street and served the traffic police to regulate the light rail, trolleybus and car traffic. A microphone system enabled the on-call staff to make announcements. A roller control in the tower served the traffic signal.
When the transformation of the Anger into a pedestrian zone began in 1974, the tower lost its function and was transferred to the junction "Erfurt-Ost" of the highway. There he served until 1989 to monitor transit traffic through the GDR. After seven years of structural decline following the reunification and reunification, the Erfurt public transport authorities and the city's Transport Department dismantled and redeveloped the tower in 1996. The repair work was completed in early August 2002 (Wikipedia).
