Westwall bunker on the Tiefenbach Trail

Highlight • Historical Site

𝐁𝐮𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬

Before World War II, Hitler had the Siegfried Line built on the western border with France. The facility was planned from 1936 and built between 1938 and 1940. The air defense zone (LVZ), to which the bunkers in St. Wendeler Land belonged, was set up about 40 km behind the actual Siegfried Line. They essentially consisted of concreted air defense positions. The weapons used there should force an approaching enemy to a greater height, whereby they should increase his fuel consumption and reduce his radius of action at the same time. On the west side of the Bosenberg there were 5 bunkers, all of which were blown up except for the water bunker that is still visible today. Source: Text information board

Urweiler Quarry

Highlight • Natural Monument

This part of the Bosenberg is called Bruchwald because there were several hard stone quarries here. The quarry through which the Tiefenbachpfad leads belonged to the current forest estate of the "Urweiler Erben".

The first known lease dates from the mid-19th century. Stones were quarried here until 1975. Loosening the stones from the rock layers was the job of the stonemasons. Until the 20th century, this was extremely strenuous and dangerous work, only carried out with the help of wedges, hammers, and black powder. Day laborers and farmers from Urweiler were hired as auxiliary workers, supplementing their income through transport work from spring to autumn. In winter, working in the quarry was not possible due to snow, ice, and the risk of slipping. Source: Text information board

Only well-maintained field and forest paths. Suitable for cycling, but there are more beautiful trails in the area for hiking. Some beautiful views of the countryside.

I wanted to go to the Christmas market in St. Wendel again. And if I ever drive into the area, I can do a little lap while it's light. So I did the first four km from the Tiefenbachpfad and then just took a forest highway back to the car. I originally wanted to do a little more, but traveling …
