Hutton-le-Hole to Lastingham Lane

This lane, linking Hutton-le-Hole and Lastingham, is well worth a pedal along. It offers a nice way to appreciate what the North York Moors offers by bike without having to venture deep into the National Park or tackle the big climbs that come with it.

Just outside Hutton-le-Hole, the road passes over the wonderfully named Fairy Call Beck. Keep and eye out for sheep grazing at the roadside and enjoy the journey.

Hutton-le-Hole Village Green and Stream

Highlight • Settlement

Hutton-le-Hole is often considered one of the prettiest villages in the whole of North York Moors National Park, with easy access to the moorlands. The village itself has a good pub, and if you have time to stop on your MTB tour, don't miss its Ryedale Folk Museum, which is ace!

The tree in the rather unusual green in the middle of the village (with a stream running through it!) has a bench under it, and it's a lovely place to sit if you're taking a break here.

Brace yourselves for an 11% climb. In places it’s 18%, so prep the small gears and get churning. Great way to finish this loop if you’ve parked in Gillamoor.

A slightly shockingly beautiful view from here - surprising (walking the streets of Gilamoor, this view comes pretty much out of nowhere!). There is a bench provided from which you can admire Douthwaite Dale and the moors beyond.

Kirkdale Cave

There is a system of caves here, originally discovered in 1821. Found here were fossilised remains of animals no longer inhabiting Britain: elephants, hippopotamuses and other. You're probably not a caver, but you can certainly admire from the outside.
