Finish Vasaloppet

Highlight • Monument

This is what the participants of the Vasaloppet do it all for: to finish in Mora, under this arch. In Swedish it says: 'I fäders spår för framtids segrar'. In other words: in the footsteps of our ancestors, for future victories.

Mora-Nisse's House

Highlight • Historical Site

Next to the finish arch of the Vasaloppet is this traditional red house from 1850. It is named after Nils 'Mora-Nisse' Karlsson, the most famous and successful competitor in the history of the cross-country ski tour. In 1943, the Swede won on his debut. In total he participated ten times, of which he won nine times.
Today, an exhibition about the Vasaloppet has been set up in the cottage. For current opening hours, see: vasaloppetssamlarklubb.se/mora-nisses-hus

Steamship S/S Laxen

Highlight • Monument

The S/S Laxen is a Swedish steamboat located at the Siljansfors Forest Museum in Mora. The ship Laxen was built in 1899 at Gefle Varv for Nedre Dalelfven Fleet Association. She was used to collecting wood (wood hunting) in Hedesundafjärden. For this purpose, she was equipped with a steam-powered capstan winch with around 2,000 meters of wire. The S/S Laxen had two sister ships the S/S Östa 1898 and S/S Bäsingen 1905.

Mora Lake Promenade

Highlight • Lake

When we visited in August 2023, the lake was flooded and access to the lake promenade was restricted. Nevertheless, there was a lot to see here (old steamboats, fountains, old steam locomotives, giant Dala horses, etc.).
