The city is located in the landscape protection area and borders directly on the Saxon Switzerland National Park. A day on the Elbe with the historic fleet of paddle steamers, past the steep cliffs, is one of the special experiences. Bad Schandau is also an ideal starting point for a bike tour along the Elbe.

For over 100 years, the Kirnitzschtalbahn - an electric tram (commissioned in 1898) - has connected Bad Schandau with the popular excursion destination Lichtenhainer Wasserfall. The old-fashioned yellow carriages run through the romantic Kirnitzschtal every half hour.

Not only the Kirnitzschtal but also many other excursion and hiking destinations are easy to reach. You can quickly reach Königstein, Pirna or Dresden by car or by public transport (bus, boat, S-Bahn).
