In the middle of two European cultural capitals, Dresden and Prague, Bad Schandau is located at the mouth of the Kirnitzsch and the Elbe. The city is located in the landscape protection area and borders directly on the Saxon Switzerland National Park. A day on the Elbe with the historic fleet of paddle steamers, past the steep cliffs, is one of the special experiences. Bad Schandau is also an ideal starting point for a bike tour along the Elbe.

The city with its approximately 3,600 inhabitants offers the best conditions for a varied spa, health and holiday stay for young and old with an overnight capacity of around 2,600 beds. If you want to find out more about the Saxon Switzerland National Park, Bad Schnadau is the right place for you. The National Park House has a lot of useful and interesting information about the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.

For over 100 years, the Kirnitzschtalbahn - an electric tram (commissioned in 1898) - has connected Bad Schandau with the popular excursion destination Lichtenhainer Wasserfall. The old-fashioned yellow carriages run through the romantic Kirnitzschtal every half hour.

Not only the Kirnitzschtal but also many other excursion and hiking destinations are easy to reach. You can quickly reach Königstein, Pirna or Dresden by car or by public transport (bus, boat, S-Bahn).

A wonderful tour with some ups and downs. The panoramic views were great. A stop at the Wachbergbaude is highly recommended. From Hinterhermsdorf it was a wonderful ride along the Saxon Switzerland cycle route along the Kirnitzsch towards the Elbe valley.
