Radium Spring

In the Vogtland community of Muldenhammer, there was a uranium mine during the GDR era. In all likelihood, the radium spring beneath the Thierberg produces water, where, due to the uranium deposits in the area, a relatively high level of dissolved radon (and significantly less radium) is present. In any case, the spring was once attested to a radon activity concentration of 3 kBq/liter, which would be quite significant. Nevertheless, the spring has so far been spared from this major discovery for spa tourism and therefore only delights hikers who make their way to this spot. A lovely rest area with a barbecue and covered picnic benches has been set up there, and many hikers in the beautiful, dreamy pine forest won't even think about radioactivity and radon when they see the fresh, clear water bubbling from the mountain's beautifully channeled spring.
