Reaching the summit by bike is a challenge at altitude. Reaching over 4,200 meters, the incline, the sandy road, and the strong mountain wind will make your heart race, but the fruits of your effort will be truly worth it with these spectacular views.
Be careful of the cold, which you won't feel on the way up due to the effort, and of the sun, which will inadvertently burn your skin if you're careless. Hydration is essential to achieving this feat and maintaining active body calories.
The lagoon, formed by freshwater from melting snow and mountain filtrations, measures 200 meters long by 75 meters wide.

This is simply one of the best mountains out there and it is one of my favourites anywhere I have been. If you are from the UK think the Snowdon Horseshoe at 4,700m with 99% less visitors, permanent sun and a proper confined narrow summit. It has quaint lakes, nice easy scrambling and great views. All within two hours or so from Mexico City. Descent from Pico del Fraile to Lake of the Sun (Nevado de Toluca)

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The section down from Pico del Fraile (Nevado Toluca summit) is a bit precarious at first but it soon gets easier and after 30 mins you get to a natural col. Here you take a detour steep downhill to the right towards the Lake of Sun/Sol. This downhill is amply shown in the photos I have uploaded to the segment. This is a 30min sandy/shale gulley skid that takes you all the way down to the Lake of the Sun.
