The most significant medieval architectural monument in the city of Schleswig is the almost 900-year-old St. Petri Cathedral. As soon as you enter the imposing interior of the house of worship, church history washes over you.

Historians suspect that St. Petri Cathedral was built around 1105, possibly on the foundations of a predecessor building.
In 1300, an extensive redevelopment of St. Petri Cathedral began, lasting for 100 years. During this construction phase, the so-called "Schwahl" was also created, which today hosts the Schwahlmarkt, a Christmas market, well-known far beyond the city limits of Schleswig.

Haithabu Viking Houses

Highly interesting reconstruction of seven Viking houses found during excavations. The replica was built using historical craft techniques and materials. On narrow plank paths between the clay-plastered wattle-and-daub walls of the houses, you get a good idea of Viking life.
