With its splendid halls and precious interiors, the Neue Residenz conveys an impressive picture of the life of the prince-bishop. A high-quality collection of old German and baroque paintings awaits in the State Gallery.
The New Residence served as the seat of the Bamberg prince-bishops until 1802. The more than 40 state rooms are equipped with stucco ceilings, furniture and knitted carpets from the 17th and 18th centuries. Particularly worth seeing are the imperial hall frescoed by Melchior Steidl, the electoral rooms and the prince-bishop's apartment.
The "Altdeutsche Galerie" and the "Barockgalerie" house important works from the Bavarian State Painting Collections. The rose garden in the inner courtyard of the residence offers a beautiful view over Bamberg.
