Church of Mechow

Highlight • Religious Site

The church in Mechow is a small but impressive church, whose trademark is the very strong dry stone walls. Like so many churches of this time and in the region, Mechow's sacred building was built in the 13th century as a rectangular rock building. Almost nothing has been changed since then. Perhaps two additional windows were added, otherwise the two renovations in 1897 and 1992 preserved the original condition. The many round arches show the Romanesque character of the church. To get inside, ask the village for the key to the church.

Kolbatzer Mühle

Highlight • Structure

To put an end to the CopyTaste & Linking madness, it should be said here briefly that the Kolbatzer Mühle was built around 1300.
After the temporary destruction, it was rebuilt around 1800.
During the GDR era, the mill was used as a company holiday home and is now privately owned.
The mill offers holiday apartments and all kinds of holiday activities!
A beautiful, but also hidden place.

Lychen: Old Town and Historic City Gates

Highlight • Historical Site

Margrave Johann I founded the city in 1248. It was given a six-meter high city wall and three gate towers, only a few of which have survived in Fürstenberger and Stargarder Tor. In 1302 the city fell to Mecklenburg. 150 years later, Margrave Johann von Brandenburg recaptured the city. The Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) and two large fires (1648, 1732) destroyed almost the entire city several times. During the Seven Years' War (1756–1763) Lychen came under Swedish occupation. Parts of today's urban area were owned by the Himmelpfort monastery in the Middle Ages.

Former Hohenlychen Sanatoriums

Highlight • Historical Site

The complex is privately owned and partly inhabited again or is still being renovated. But you don't want to be visited...
The former charm of the old complex can still be seen in the building and the elementary school, which are not directly on the fenced-off site.

One of the most beautiful sections of the Uckermärkischer Radrundweg. Very good paved road and there is a lot to see.

The photo shows the Zenssee. Nevertheless, a detour here is worthwhile.
