Today you can hardly tell that the Baldeneysee was created artificially. It not only attracts water sports fans, but the continuously developed footpath and cycle path around the lake is very attractive.

Day 1 of our Tour de Ruhr, and right away the most beautiful stretch with the best rest stops ;-) 🍟🍺. Once you've conquered the (moderate) elevation gain to Velbert, it's a rapid descent toward Lake Baldeney. On Friday, the crowds were still bearable, and we made good progress. A detour to Villa Hügel is also highly recommended.

To cycle again with approach, it is recommended to start from Essen, Zornige Ameise, there are enough free and shady parking spaces at the former restaurant. However, access is no longer possible from the north.

The biker rest area at Haus Scheppen is …

Before the test match in Velbert, I set off from there for a little ride 🚲. It went through the Hespertal to the Baldenysee. On to Essen Werden and then on the towpath to Kettwig.
After a short ice cream break 🍨 we took the panoramic cycle path back to Velbert to the IMS Arena.
Unfortunately we lost the game …
