Vordorf Village

Highlight • Settlement

Vordorf is located on the eastern slope of the Schneeberg and is part of the municipality of Tröstau. 1393 Vordorf was first mentioned by name in a document. There is another document from 1061 which gave a ministerial named Otnant ownership of a tract of land around what is now the outskirts. Although no place names are mentioned in the text, there is talk of land, buildings and fields. The assumption that this settlement was a suburb is supported by the fact that tin mining began in this area during this period. This was operated successfully until the first half of the 15th century, but was then discontinued due to the exhaustion of the deposits. At that time Vordorf had about 40 inhabitants.
The Thirty Years' War was relatively quiet for Vordorf until 1642, but the "list of all subjects in which 6 offices" from 1642 states that 19 houses were destroyed or damaged and 2 residents died. If one compares the register of 1619 with that of 1658, one comes to 16 deaths among the able-bodied.
In 1769 the last bear in northern Bavaria was shot near Vordorf.
