Ducal Cemetery of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha

Highlight • Historical Site

On the Buchleite hill, not far from Callenberg Castle, is the ducal cemetery for members of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, established in 1944. Previously, the family members were buried in the ducal mausoleum in Coburg.
Numerous stone steps form a curved staircase leading to the cemetery, surrounded by a low stone wall. A massive stone cross and seven burial plots covered by crypt slabs are located here. The grave of Prince Andreas of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha is still fresh and bears a wooden cross. He died on April 3, 2025.

Callenberg Castle is surrounded by 350 hectares of forest: visitors can explore the former hunting grounds of the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha along beautiful trails. According to tradition, the land directly surrounding Callenberg Castle is home to red and fallow deer, and visitors can observe the game up close.

This lake is a small side lake of the Drehweiher. Nothing special, but nice to look at.

Weidach Water Tower

Highlight • Monument

The tower was built to secure the drinking water supply in the pasture roof, which was growing rapidly at the time. Because there is no point in the town that is higher than the houses, supply from an elevated tank was impossible. However, leaving pumps running permanently would have been unprofitable.
