Cuckoo Rock

Highlight • Natural Monument

Beautiful free-standing rock with a steep overhang on the southern flank, which is very popular for climbing. The hospital used to be directly below, so beginners didn't have to go that far if something went wrong.

April 23, 2025,Dahner Felsenland Tag 1/7
Day 1 of 7 in the Dahn Rock Country.

To start my hiking week, I had chosen a short hike in and around Dahn.
Without a backpack or poles, I set off (it's only 12km, so I don't need poles...)
The trail took me up and down …

April 18, 2025,Runde in Dahn
The starting point is the parking lot at the tourist information office. We walked through the spa gardens to the Hochfelsen (High Rock), a fantastic vantage point. We continued on to the Altdahn Castles (unfortunately closed when we were there). We continued toward the Römerfelsen (Roman Rocks), although they weren't our goal. We turned off once in the forest to …

Now we've finally reached the Palatinate Forest: From Dahn we first went up to the Hochstein and past great rock formations over to the Altdahn castle ruins. It felt like half of the hike was traipsing up and down the countless steps through the castle. It's amazing what the castle lords had built on and through the rocks back then! …

Today we start in Dahn on the large, free parking lot at the guest house. First we form ourselves over the "Elwetritsche", then it goes thoughtfully past the honorary cemetery with the Michaelskapelle at the foot of the Hochstein. A veritable reef in the forest, only a few rock towers visible from Dahn, from the south side a huge, sloping …
