Bürgerturm Türmle Heidenheim

Highlight • Monument

The "Türmle"

This civic tower is the last of the original six guard towers and four gate towers of the medieval city fortification. It was added around 1400 in the existing since the 13th century eastern city wall section. The bricked tower was covered by a Halbkegeldach until the end of the 18th century, after which he received the existing timber-framed tower.

Currently, these rooms serve the Heidenheimer Kunstverein as exhibition spaces.

Brunnenmühl Spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Brunnenmühlquelle (or Brunnenmühle) is a karst spring that pours an average of around 1,500 liters of water per second. This surpasses the nearby Brenztopf (in Königsbronn) and is the third strongest spring in the Swabian Alb.
It has an underground catchment area of over 100 km², which includes the Stubental and the Alb plateau as far as Böhmenkirch.
The Hellenstein castle and palace in particular used the spring for a water supply for a period (16th / 17th centuries). The water was pumped up the mountain using an ingenious system.
You can find more information on the display boards.
Today the karst spring is part of the Voith hydro test facility.
The spring is open to the public and is also part of the Mergelstetter waterway (hiking trail).

View of Hellenstein Castle

Highlight • Castle

Hellenstein Castle is a fortress located above the city of Heidenheim an der Brenz. It was once the headquarters of the Lords of Hellenstein. The ownership changed later: in the late Middle Ages the complex was in Bavarian hands, at the beginning of modern times it was Württemberg.

The pedestrian zone extends several hundred meters from the Voith site to the "Schloss Arkaden". Here you will find not only numerous retail shops, but also cafes, restaurants and takeaway sales - everything you need to strengthen and rest on extended shopping trips.
The Heidenheim city center is ideally suited to discover the latest fashion between historic buildings and various delicacies.
