Nice vantage point.
In the south the view of Walsum. In the north the Voerde and Götterswickerham power stations, in the east, at the foot of the dike, the Rheinaue and in the west Father Rhine.

January 23, 2022,Walsumer Rheinauen – Emschermündung Runde von Alt-Walsum
We were in Duisburg today. At the moment the geese are overwintering there and we had a lot of fun watching geese, herons and storks with binoculars.
The gray weather immersed the nature reserve in a mystical, cursed atmosphere and was definitely worth a trip 😄

In sunny weather, I drove to Walsum's Rheinauen for the first time today. Interesting area. Unfortunately, there was no way to the Emscher Delta, which is not far away.
There were flowers, insects, herons, storks and... a sea eagle to see. Unfortunately, it was quite far away and the picture is not particularly sharp... but I caught my first wild …

We checked the weather forecast yesterday and decided on the tour near Duisburg Walsum today. It rained in Neuss, but the sun shone there the whole way. A very nice route, beautiful Rhine meadows, a bit too much asphalt for my taste, but it was still okay. A while ago, WDR reported that there was a pair of sea eagles …

It's amazing to see how quickly nature has responded to the newly created areas during the Emscher redesign, creating veritable carpets of wildflowers.

Despite the frosty temperatures and fog, the Walsum Rhine meadows attracted visitors today with their very special charm. The more than 500 hectare nature reserve, known for its diverse birdlife, appeared in a mystical light. The ice-mist-covered Rhine and the wide meadows offered a beautiful, almost unreal picture. A winter adventure that was worth it!

The hike around and through the Walsum Rhine meadows is always beautiful, especially when there's no wind. The starting point is a small hiking parking lot in Walsum. From here, the trail heads north over the Rhine dyke, offering beautiful views of the Rhine and into the nature reserve, where you can enjoy birdwatching (we even saw a golden eagle …

... a quick breath of fresh air 🌬💨🌥 warm and windy, inspecting the filled-in old mouth of the Emscher, from Stapp Dinslaken, on the Rhine towards Rheinauen Walsum, nothing new 🤣🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♂️
