Stork Village Rühstädt

Highlight • Settlement

Nowhere in Germany do so many storks nest in such a small space as in the European stork village of Rühstädt near the Elbe.
The place is beautifully decorated and offers several options for a good stop.

Very well-developed cycle path on the dike, which also offers a great view of the river landscape, especially at this point. Easy to drive on. A very nice route and a great section of this route! It's worth it!

This time from Wittenberge to Havelberg. Beautiful scenery on both sides of the Elbe. Again, many sections on the dike. The highlight was two sea eagles, far away but calling loudly. We had coffee near the cathedral in Havelberg. Café D8 – with a lovely café garden. Unfortunately, it was too cold to sit outside. And the way back was …

From Havelberg with the ferry at Räbel we went to the left bank of the Elbe. First after Werben, the smallest Hanseatic city in Germany. Werben is one of the 20 smallest cities. A pretty little town with a well-preserved city gate and many lovingly restored houses. Our 🐕 also had the opportunity to swim in the Elbe. The gardens …

Great tour on both sides of the Elbe. West of the Elbe, sometimes on, sometimes alongside the dike. East of the Elbe, almost always on the dike if you want, or alongside it if the wind is too strong. Be sure to plan breaks at Cafe Lämpel in Werben and the Hofcafe in the old mill in Rühstedt!

This morning with the 🚗 shuttle to Havelberg. Unfortunately, the ferry at Raebel is currently out of service because the access road to the ferry is being rebuilt in Raebel. Luckily Sandau is not too far away. The weather was just fantastic to enjoy pure nature. From Gnevsdorf it should actually go over the weir then onto the middle cycle …

On the way back north from the Erzgebirge, it was a good idea to stop halfway to cycle another section of the Elbe cycle path. The initial planning was reduced to approx. 70km so that there was still time for culture and fun, as well as time to continue the journey to today's overnight stay.
In the morning we were …
