First Production Site of Zuse Computers

Highlight • Historical Site

In 1949, Konrad Zuse founded Zuse KG together with his former fellow students Harro Stucken and Alfred Eckard on the site of the former postal relay station.
This was the first place where computers were built for commercial purposes in Europe. The company was very successful, so that by 1957 it had grown to a workforce of around 180 people. For reasons of space, it was decided to move to Bad Hersfeld in 1957.
With the Z11, the first computer was mass-produced in these buildings in Germany from 1955. A total of 48 computers of this type were manufactured.
The purchase price was around 120,000 DM.
For comparison: the monthly income of a worker was about 180 DM in the mid-1950s.

Salzbrunnen on the Haune

Highlight • Natural Monument

The salt well is located on the Haune directly on Haunetalradweg near Rothenkirchen. He has been bubbling since time immemorial. The mineral water
contains cooking salt and gypsum. The abundant iron ions have colored the watercourse red / brown.
I have already tried the water. It tastes awful in my view - but should be healthy. I've already seen people who got the water in small milk churns.
There are only a few mineral waters whose magnesium and calcium content can keep up with this water.
Analysis of 1958: Na: 1072 mg / l; K: 13.1 mg / L; Ca: 396 mg / l; Mg: 185 mg / l
Cl: 1680 mg / l; SO4: 1313 mg / l; HCO3: 4826 mg / l.

The so-called "Dead Bridge" leads on the way from Rothenkirchen to the cemetery on the Haune. It is the only surviving stone footbridge from ancient times in the Fulda region. Today she has 3 arched openings and an ice pillar. It is an inscribed stone with the number 1861 walled. In the years 1985/86 the dilapidated bridge was demolished and renewed true to the original.
