Very beautiful "Pättken". The forest is beautiful! Wild, ivy climbs up the tree trunks, mosses and ferns grow on the ground and the Wolfsstrang meanders picturesquely through the forest.

Since ancient times, the areas of the Franconians and Saxons have bordered each other in this region. The "Little Issel" separates the Rhineland from Westphalia, the administrative districts of Düsseldorf and Münster, the districts of Wesel (WES) and Borken (BOR) and thus the cities of Hamminkeln (HAM) and Bocholt (BOH). The border between OT Mussum (prev. rk) and Wertherbruch (prev. ev) also runs here.

Mussum Marian Shrine

Highlight • Religious Site

The Marienbildstock was erected at the end of 1995. It is visible from all sides - a sign that Mary is accessible to everyone. A bench invites you to take a break.

The Madonna was carved by the Bocholt sculptor Emil Ebert. The Schutzmantel Madonna in the nearby church Maria Trösterin also comes from his hand. The latter was Emil Ebert's first work and this Madonna in the Bildstock his last.

Mussum Heritage House

Highlight • Historical Site

The local history house was built in 1994 by the Mussum village community.

After many farms had to make way for the newly created industrial area, the village, in its rural origins, no longer existed.

The association was then founded in 1989 with the aim of preserving and reworking the rural cultural heritage and maintaining customs. The members lovingly look after the entire area.

An original farm garden, in which the beds are separated from each other by boxwood hedges, was created and the typical vegetables for a stew are planted, cared for and harvested every year so that the children can see where their finished vegetables come from.

Old agricultural equipment is stored in the coach house and the barn and thus preserved for future generations.

At their instigation, the underpass was painted with former buildings from Mussum and impressions of rural life.

Way of the Cross at Marienplatz

Highlight (Segment) • Religious Site

1. A beautiful Way of the Cross has been located at the Marienplatz since 2017. On 14 individual bronze tablets, the sculptor Joseph Krautwald*) has depicted events from the last days of Jesus in relief form. They were donated to the Mussum e.V. village community, which in turn crafted matching stands and erected the Way of the Cross.
The path leads from the church Maria Trösterin (Station 1+2), continues on the narrow footpath between the houses (No. 19 + 21) towards the cemetery. The last stations 13+14 are located before the underpass. The total length of the path is only 260 meters. Several benches are placed along the path, inviting visitors to linger and meditate.

2. The bronze relief of the Sower also comes from the sculptor Joseph Krautwald. It was erected in 2021 behind the bakehouse (at the local history museum), and the parable of the Sower can also be found on a sign at the bakehouse.

3. An altar cross made of travertine with the inscription "Come to me, all of you" stands on the path to the cemetery and also comes from the sculptor Joseph Krautwald. It was erected in 2021 facing the MT church (between Way of the Cross stations 4 and 5).
