St. George's Church Rethwisch

Highlight • Religious Site

The village church in Rethwisch is a three-nave stepped hall with a 5/8 choral polygon and a spruced medieval wooden tower from 1374 with a pyramid hood. The wide arcades rest on octagonal pillars. The choir is vaulted, the central nave has a flat beam ceiling, and the aisles are arched over with wooden half-bins. In the south probably a foyer was added in the 15th century. The sacristy on the north side has a medieval Piscina (a spout for washing the evening meal). Outside the chancel's apex window are the remains of a medieval plastering field, which was probably once painted. The pulpit dates back to 1666 and features medieval stained glass windows and a high sacrament tower.
