Kirchhain Town Hall and Market Square

Highlight • Historical Site

Kirchhain has a picturesque marketplace with a beautiful half-timbered ensemble. It is a traditional market and trading town and therefore the weekly markets take place here regularly on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The annual Easter, Martins and Advent markets are definitely worth a visit. You can find more information here: kirchhain.de/Leben-Wohnen/Unsere-Stadt/M%C3%A4rkte.

Hainmühle on the Ohm River

Highlight • Monument

An old watermill on the Ohm, which has been here for several centuries and only stopped operating in the 1960s. However, the old turbine system has been renovated in recent years and is now used to generate electricity. The long history has not harmed the building, it is still very beautiful to look at.

Rauschenberg Town Hall

Highlight • Monument

Construction of the town hall began in 1557. A three-storey building with projecting floors was built on a sandstone foundation measuring approximately 12 x 18 m. For fire protection reasons, the half-timbered surfaces were plastered until the 19th century, and only later was the half-timbering exposed and beams and panels painted. A complete renovation took place in 1985/87. This is the state of the town hall in its current form. The octagonal stair tower was built in 1566 from red sandstone with a half-timbering finish. It was also called the fire tower and had access to every floor. In the event of a fire, the aim was to provide those in the town hall with a fire-safe exit. A particularly decorative piece is the portal of the stair tower, which was created by the Frankenherger woodcarver and sculptor Philipp Soldan.
