Villa von Eerde (Geldern Town Hall)

Highlight • Historical Site

In 1862/63 the representative villa of the district administrator Georg Freiherr von Eerde was built on the site of an earlier fortress area. The villa is built in the English Tudor style based on the imaginary model of a castle, with numerous turrets and battlements. A large English park was created around the building.

Since 1894, the building served as the district office of the Geldern district. Together with the "red house" built in 1956, the city of Geldern now uses the villa for the city administration.

The 11 officers from Schills Corps were transferred to Wesel, here before a court martial and shot on September 16, 1809 on the Lippewiesen. According to tradition, they died calling up the king and Prussia.

Really no joke, this is how you do it right at the dumb hole of funds:

You stick your head in the hole. Take as deep a breath as you can. buzzes In as low a tone as you can: until there is no more air in your lungs.

Repeat several times!

Everyone has only one organ vibration, the so-called "tremor". That hum excites the tremor. Enormously!

It is probable that the humming of early human history - even more than singing, drums and flutes etc. - was seen as an "in-tone statute" of the entire organism.
This stone is a replica of a buzzing hole in Malta's underground cave system.

St. Mary Magdalene Church, Geldern

Highlight • Religious Site

The church was built in 1339 as the monastery church of the Carmelite monastery in Geldern, founded in 1306. Written records indicate a possible predecessor building from the 13th century. The sources mention an "ecclesia Gelrensis infra oppidum" shortly after 1290. Since the church in Nieukerk is still mentioned in 1067 as "ecclesia in Gelre" and in 1249 as "ecclesiae in Gelren", it is assumed that St. Dionysius Nieukerk only deprived Geldern of the parish in the 13th century. In 1306, Count Rainald I of Geldern left the court chapel to the newly founded Carmelite monastery as a monastery church, although this building could not be located exactly and does not necessarily have to be identical to the current location of St. Maria Magdalena.
The formerly two-aisled basilica from 1339 was expanded in the years 1400-18[4] to become a three-aisled hall church with a three-apsid closure, the floor plan of which corresponded to today's church. After Geldern was taken by the Dutch in 1578, St. Maria Magdalena was temporarily reformed. Recatholicization took place in 1587 under Spanish rule. During the War of the Spanish Succession, Prussian troops bombed Geldern in 1703. The church building was also hit and destroyed. Reconstruction took place between 1707 and 1715, as a result of which the church received a Baroque interior. In the course of historicism in the 19th century, St. Maria Magdalena was re-Gothicized. This building was also hit during World War II during air raids on February 14 and 24, 1945 and destroyed down to the foundations. Today's church is the work of Dominikus Böhm (1880-1955), which the Cologne architect and master builder built between 1949 and 1952. Apart from parts of the outer masonry, only the north-west tower has survived from the original building. After the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council, Böhm's conception had to be adapted. Architect Phillip Glitz (1913–1998) rearranged the interior so that the canteen, made of Belgian granite, became the center of the seating.
