Highlight • Rest Area

The Isar estuary information center is located directly on the Isar cycle path, a short detour is definitely worth it. The information center is located in the midst of beautiful alluvial forests on the edge of a unique nature reserve and is freely accessible from April 1st to October 31st. In the large outdoor facilities, visitors will find a diverse and varied range of experiences and information. There are experience and knowledge stations, a large playground, an observation platform at the herd of oxen, a training apiary and many other interesting things to see. The Bayern - Entdecker stamp station is located in the entrance area.

Here in the unique nature reserve, where the Isar meets the Danube, nature has created this impressive landscape with backwaters, alluvial forests and moist meadows and littered meadows. A paradise for water birds, which you can watch very well here.

Isar Floodplain Forest at the Isar Mouth

Highlight (Segment) • Forest

The Untere Isar natural area - a jewel in Bavaria
Despite the enormous human intervention in the natural area of the Lower Isar, this area is to be classified as extremely valuable.
The riparian forests of the Lower Isar between Gottfrieding and Plattling are among the largest and last contiguous riparian forests in Bavaria. Due to their peculiarity, they have been reported to the EU by the government of Lower Bavaria as a bird protection area (special protected area) and FFH area (flora-fauna-habitat area). Thus, the Lower Isar near Piel Weichs is part of the European Natura 2000 network of biotopes.
In the area between Ettling and Plattling there are a wide variety of valuable habitats, such as natural nutrient-rich lakes, aquatic and reed vegetation and siltation zones, species-rich wet meadows and tall herbaceous meadows, softwood and hardwood alluvial forest, as well as ravine and mixed sloping forests.
These biotope types are home to rare species of flora and fauna that enjoy international protection. The protected animals of the area include the beaver, the bluethroat, the middle woodpecker, the narrow diaper snail, the dormouse, the brook mussel, the natural fish species (mud whip, schied, nerd, schrätzer, white-flossed gudgeon and female nerf) as well as the green wedge damsel.

Citizens' Hospital

Highlight • Historical Site

The Bürgerspital with its typical neo-Gothic facade has stood in the city center of Plattling at Ludwigplatz since the second half of the 19th century. The building is probably one of the oldest on Plattling's town square. Now art and culture.
