Jakobsbrunnen Spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

While his story has been forgotten in the course of the centuries since the monastery was founded, there are still many stories about him - not least that his water, created on the Easter Vigil, helps against all sorts of ailments.
Immediately above the spring, embedded in the sandstone, a motto is emblazoned: "The louder water trickles full of liquid metals, a healing iron ore makes its course, so louder is your heart and from this source of wisdom spring strong word and set up weak."
Also from this saying no one knows since when he is there. Before the Loccumer clubs had a metal shield work, the saying was already immortalized in wood.
What the Loccumers call their Paradise lies on the opposite side of the Fulde: a small rectangular piece of wood, which at that time was endowed with exotic plants and provided with winding paths. The vicars from the seminary should "go there" to enjoy nature and either recover from their studies or think about it all the more intensively. In addition to Paradise, many small secluded spots were created in the monastery forest, helping nature to create a wild, romantic impression. One of these places could have been the Jacob's well.

Luccaburg Memorial

Highlight • Historical Site

The Luccaburg was an early medieval lowland castle near Loccum. The tower hill castle of the Counts of Lucca from the 11th/12th century can be recognized as a mighty, round mound of earth. Parts of the 2 m wide ring wall have been preserved. A Count Burchard of Lucca is mentioned in documents around 1113 and 1130. His daughter Beatrice of Lucca married Count Wilbrand of Hallermund, who thus became his successor and heir. In 1163 he donated the surrounding land to Cistercian monks to found the Loccum monastery. The Luccaburg can only be reached on foot or by bike.
