In der Elt Nature Reserve Entrance

Highlight • Natural Monument

From the waterworks to the Roman lake and the pastures south of Greiffenhorst Park to the Linn city moat, the tenth nature reserve in Krefeld's urban area was designated in 2017 with "In der Elt".

Drinking water is extracted from around half of the area; this operation is regulated and guaranteed within the statutes of the NSG.

Horse pastures, meadows and forest are features of the NSG. Spawning waters for the great crested newt and a smooth oat-burnt-silt meadow as a habitat for the blue butterfly belong to "In der Elt".

The foundations of the former Linn church are marked here. Shards that can be attributed to Roman times were also found here.

Site of the Former Alde Kerck Church

Highlight • Historical Site

According to tradition, the first Linner church was not in the later city of Linn, but here at this point, halfway from the castle to the Rhine.
The field name "Alde Kerck" still refers to its former location. In 1279 it is said to have been destroyed by Rhine flood. As legend has it, the famous Linner Kreuz was carried by the floods from the Alde Kerck to the Linner Sandberg (halfway to Uerdingen), where allegedly years later a farmer with a plow bumped into it. After he had struggled in vain to drive the cross to Uerdingen, he turned his cart and, lo and behold, it rolled easily into the city of Linn.

For the first time, a Linn church was first mentioned around 1090, about 200 years before the city was founded next to Linn Castle. However, the excavation carried out in 1989-90 showed that the first small church - a square building of 6 x 6 m - was built before the Ottonian period (in the 10th century). The north wall of this first church was later incorporated into the high medieval building. The plan shows the layout of the last church, built mainly during the 11th and 12th centuries. At that time, the southern aisle of a noble family, probably the lords of Linn, served as a funeral.
In the northeast of the church was an old place of jurisdiction in the churchyard. The court symbol was evidently an unfinished boulder made of tertiary quartzite, which was immured on the outside in a protruding pillar of the choir. Under the open sky, as was the custom, it was probably judged before him. An indication of this was the arrangement of the graves in this area of the churchyard.

Finally, the tradition of the destruction of the church in the late 13th century was confirmed by the excavation.

Römersee

Highlight • Lake

It's great that you can't give a negative tip.
You can't see much of the lake because it is cordoned off and the vegetation is very dense.
