The Fürwiggetalsperre between Meinerzhagen and Lüdenscheid dams six brooks (Hülsebach, Drögenpütt, Fürwigge, Schürfelder Becke, Verse and Brinkbach). Until the construction of the new dam, which was built a few kilometers below, it was called the Versetalsperre.

The restaurant above the dam has been closed since 2001.

Due to construction work on the dam from 2005 to 2007, the water was completely drained. Among other things, a control passage was built into the dam wall (by blasting) [1] and the top of the wall renovated and provided with new railings.
