Cycle path between Schwarzenbek and Ödendorf

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The cycle path is separated from the road by a green strip and is relatively easy to drive on. The cars roar past you, but fortunately with a little distance. Good, relatively smooth track for mileage and pace.

St. Mary's Church Basthorst

Highlight • Religious Site

The Evangelical Lutheran St. Mary's Church in Basthorst bears the name of the Virgin Mary and was formerly a pilgrimage site dedicated to the Holy Body; significant annual fairs were held there twice a year.

The old St. Mary's Church was first mentioned in 1319, but it was demolished in 1856 due to its dilapidated condition.

The current church was redesigned and built between 1857 and 1859 with considerable financial contributions from the estate and the four villages belonging to the parish.

The church is a single-nave, neo-Gothic fieldstone church with a recessed five-eighths chancel made of brick and a 43-meter-high west tower topped with a pointed spire, which is visible from all sides. The nave features five wooden rib vaults and a pointed chancel arch.
