The building comes into its own thanks to the overall impression with the market square

Coesfeld Market Square

Highlight • Settlement

The Coesfeld market square is very atmospheric and attractive. No wonder, as it is framed by venerable buildings. These include the two impressive churches of St. Lamberti and the Jesuit Church. In between stands the town hall and in the middle of the square the representative fountain invites you to linger on its edge and let the square work its magic. In the many surrounding houses you will find gastronomy for every taste.

St. Lamberti Church, Coesfeld

Highlight • Religious Site

"From many places in the city you can already see the tower of the Lamberti Church in Coesfeld, which is a natural part of the image of the city.
However, this was not always the case. Old city views show something different. Because in the Middle Ages there were still two towers on the facade of the parish church.
However, the two towers collapsed during violent storms. The north tower in 1635, the south tower a little later in 1681. Since Coesfeld suffered from the consequences of the Thirty Years' War and the occupation by Hessian troops for a long time, a new tower could only be built in 1703. This year can still be seen today on the cornice on the "first floor" of the tower.
Master builder Pictorius built the tower in the baroque style that was current at the time. The 68 meter high tower is also the most modern part of the church. The main portal wants to prepare the church visitors in a certain way for the church visit. The pillars and pediments clearly show that when you walk through, you are entering a special space. Representations of exotic fruits and flowers for that time, as well as the statues of many angels and saints underline this impression.
The Coesfeld cross is shown in the middle above the portal. In a way, this figure is the “door sign” that shows visitors what is special in this church. The cross is framed by two statues from the 1920s: on the left St. Ludgerus as the first bishop of Münster, on the right St. Lambertus as the patron saint of the church.
On March 25, 809, one day before his death, Ludgerus preached in the Lamberti church. The church itself is east-facing as a whole. This means that the chancel faces east, towards the rising sun. This is particularly noticeable in the summer months, when the sun shines directly through the colorful choir windows during morning mass." Source: muensterland.de

Even if the break hut is currently (after Easter 2022) not available as a rest area - the Easter decorations are very lovingly made and definitely worth a stop!
