Devil’s Kitchen Rock Formation

Highlight • Natural Monument

In the devil's kitchen, according to legend, the dishes for the carousing party with the devil were prepared and here a courageous monk sneaked up to the evil company.
A long time ago the people in Graefenberg and Weißenohe were startled again and again at night by the terrible noise on the Eberhardsberg. Roars and screams came from the forest hill. Everyone felt scary and no one dared to go outside the door in the dark.
The rumor got around that an old warlord with his daring companions had invited people to a feast here, and that the devil himself was a guest at the hustle and bustle. Food would come out and the beer would flow freely. The desert society pokes at the respectable people in the country, scoffs and curses.
Metal cards with strange, eerie symbols on them served as playing cards and would be thrown onto a stone table with a terrible clang.
When the fear in the population grew, a monk from the Benedictine abbey in Weißenohe took heart and decided to approach the evil society in order to put a stop to it.
At nightfall he climbed the Eberhardsberg. Where the fairground was supposed to be, he saw an eerily flaming blue light between the rocks. He took heart, approached the evil fellows, raised his wooden cross to heaven and fervently called out the name of God. Then the forest was suddenly shone through with bright light and appeared in lovely green. The evil in this place disappeared and has never returned since.

Lillach Spring

Highlight • Natural

The Lillach has a lot to offer, not only the sinter terraces, but also a real spring. The spring water flows beautifully from under a stone and across the path. Fantastic playground for children and a picnic area for all weary hikers. However, don't expect to be alone here. This hiking trail is too well known.

Very nice hiking trail a little above the main route. Nice to run and in the shade.

Lillach Tufa Terraces

Highlight • Waterfall

Really a highlight that is second to none. The path along the Lillach has a few steps (therefore it is only partially suitable for prams), but it is well developed and has several rest areas where you can enjoy the wonderful nature in peace. On weekends, however, there is quite a lot of hiking traffic. I recommend the hike after rain or in spring, when there is a lot of water and the creek is not overgrown.

After the terraces, you walk along a beautiful wooden path and up some steps. Here, in the middle of the forest, you will find a wonderful rest area with a few benches. It's a dream to have an evening meal here. You can hear the water in the background.

Easily walkable paths and footbridges. In great shape. In the later course, in order to get to the rest platform, a few steps have to be mastered.

A tour of the Franconian laundry room today - a bit inspired by one of @ML's last hikes 😊
Air like syrup, but very nice hiking trails.
Unfortunately, timing wasn't quite our thing today; the Gasthaus zur Lillachquelle was on vacation, we arrived in Weißennohe punctually for the kitchen break and then - despite skipping the devil's table - missed …
