Falkenstein Castle

Highlight • Castle

Falkenstein Castle stands out as a jewel above the Selketal in the eastern Harz Mountains. You can see it from afar when you arrive. From the other side of the valley, that of the Ackeburg, you also have a very good view. The castle is completely preserved and serves as a museum. Many interesting exhibits provide historical insights. The tower, from which one can overlook the Selketal, allows a view. Knight and castle festivals take place seasonally. A falconer practices his craft here and you can even hold a wedding. The stamp office 200 of the Harzer hiking nobility is in front of the gate.

Trail to Falkenstein Castle

Highlight • Trail

Wildly romantic paths do not always have to be overgrown - this is how you imagine a medieval entrance to a castle.

It is worth taking a break, there is an information board and a rest hut.
And if you are lucky you will meet little knights.

Nice staircase that leads up to Falkenstein Castle. The strenuous way is definitely rewarded by the great castle!

View of Falkenstein Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

On various maps at this point a camera icon is located. So, was curious, leave way short and, yes you already have a nice view of the castle and the valley. With increasing foliage of the trees, the view here, however, is quite limited.

March 3, 2024,Burg Falkenstein – HWN 200 - kleine Sonntagsrunde
After a long break from hiking and resting after a major operation, today we went on a small "introductory lap" again. On the climb to Falkenstein Castle, I quickly noticed that my fitness was declining. The weather was fantastically spring-like. I would have expected more hiking enthusiasts. Otherwise we had a nice family trip. 🥾☀️👩🏻👩🏻🙎🏻‍♂️🐶

We went up from the parking lot by train.
At the top of the castle there was a small knight's life with corresponding stands to take part in.

This spell from the series "Spooks under the Ferris Wheel" was burned into our brains in our childhood. Falkenstein Castle became the refuge of the three escaped ghosts (witch, giant and Rumpelstiltskin) from the ghost train. It is considered one …

Relaxed walk from the garden house car park with a coffee party. If you want, you can take the mini train to the castle, if you are traveling with children you will find a playground and forest adventures and the castle is interesting for all generations.

Nice little walk. The castle was unfortunately closed, but the view from outside is impressive.

An adventure with grandpa and toddler definitely not suitable for hiking afterwards, as the Komoot path that was drawn in was not there. We dangled along the slopes ... no end of mustache. Falkenstein Castle (HWN 200) is a great excursion. It went up with the little train.

Just a quick trip to the castle festival at Burg Falkenstein HWN 200. Had a bite to eat, a drink and bought Tinef. It was quite pleasant.

In the hope of better weather, we went to Falkenstein Castle (Harz). The weather didn't want to be like us, but the castle is worth the hike!
Very interesting information about the “Sachsenspiegel” and Eike von Repgow, a wide variety of exhibits and a castle for children to discover with special offers for children.
