In 1828, the mill belonging to the Farve estate was built on a slight hill. Like many other windmills in Northern Europe, it replaced an older watermill. In the 1930s, the mill was upgraded to the state of the art with wind-tilted sails. The Farve Mill has a long wooden pole structure, called a "steert," to control the orientation of the windmill sails against the wind.

As a classic post mill, the thatched mill body
is located on an octagonal base (tower) clad with boards. Unlike older post mills, only the cap, also thatched, had to be turned into the wind.

The Farve Mill is a registered cultural monument and one
of four windmills preserved in the Ostholstein district. Only the mill in Lemkenhafen, built in 1787, is older than the Farve Mill.
