Here in the great forest of the Klatenberge are the wells of the municipal utilities for the water supply of the Telgter population. A little deeper in the direction of Ostbevern is the Heide-Hotel Waldhütte, a worthwhile attraction for lovers of wild food.

Klatenberge Juniper Heath

Highlight • Forest

The approximately 4-acre juniper heath is the highlight of this NSG. It is the only (historically grown) cultural landscape of this kind in the district of Warendorf.

Rest area on Klatenberge Heath

Highlight • Rest Area

The juniper heath can only be reached on foot. Due to the deep sandy paths, it is not advisable to arrive by bike. Cars can be parked on the wide parking strip along the L 811. From there, the juniper heath can be reached on foot in about 500m.

The juniper heath in the pine forest area Klatenberge is a relic of a heath landscape that was once widespread in the Münsterland. In the 18th and 19th centuries, large parts of what is now the northern district of Warendorf were heathlands, which were unsuitable for arable use due to the nutrient-poor and dry sandy soils. Today, the entire diversity of open dune landscapes with sandy grasslands, open sandy areas, blooming heather in August, gnarled juniper bushes and distinctive old oaks is presented here on almost 4 hectares. A short stop with a picnic is worthwhile in the juniper heath: from the highest dune peak in the area there is a beautiful panoramic view of the heath landscape. There is a seating area with a table and benches. And if you want, you can take off your shoes for a moment and feel the soft sand under your feet. That is pure nature experience and enjoyment!

Haus Langen

Highlight • Historical Site

Haus Langen is a former knight's estate near the Ems. The ringwork fortification was built before the year 1000 and is one of the oldest fortresses with a surrounding moat as protection. Only the gatehouse remains of the complex. Directly opposite is a double mill.

The path leads through the Kiebitzpohl farmers in Telgte past the veterinary clinic to the Emshof school farm. Immediately to the right is a dirt road that ends at the Winkhaus company. In between, the view of the Ems, which has been left untouched there, is always revealed. After Telgte there is the possibility to walk directly along the Ems or through the modern and worth seeing Stations of the Cross to the Bernsmeyer House and the Church of St. Clemens.
