The Niederfinow Ship Lift, commissioned on March 21, 1934, is the oldest operating ship lift in Germany. In Niederfinow (Barnim), the lift overcomes a height difference of 36 meters between the summit level (Lock Lehnitz to Ship Lift) and the Oder level (Ship Lift to Locks Hohensaaten) of the Havel-Oder Waterway at km 77.89.
The ship lift is a protected industrial monument. In December 2007, it received the award "Historic Monument of Engineering in Germany", presented for the first time by the Federal Chamber of Engineers.
