Schutzalf Memorial Bell Tower

Highlight • Monument

Until the end of the 19th century, the disappeared town of Schutzalf was located in the beautiful Alfbach valley, about one and a half kilometers east of Mückeln. The former hamlet, consisting of three or four houses and a chapel with a brother's apartment, was located between the Sprinker Hof and the Sprinker Mühle, both of which were owned by the Augustinian monastery Springiersbach, which was founded in the early 12th century.

The large stones lying here are the old altar stones from the Schutzalf chapel, of which a small part of the foundation can still be seen.

The Alfbach gorge near Strohn is called "Strohner Schweiz" (Strohn's Switzerland) because of its steep slopes and wildly romantic landscape. From a bench, you can enjoy a beautiful view down to the stream. You can also walk down the footpath and cross the stream on the nearby bridge.

Wartgesberg Lava Quarry

Highlight • Natural Monument

Not far behind the lava bomb in Strohn, in the direction of Strohner Switzerland, you reach the lava wall, which borders the lava fracture behind it and offers an excellent view of the geological layering and the different rock formations. Special formations are explained on an information board and marked with frames on the lava wall itself.
In front of the lava wall, in addition to the information boards, there are also comfortable rest areas.
