Steps up to Sokolica

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Interesting wooden stairs in the forest just behind Zawoja Krowiarki on the way to Sokolica. You decide whether it is easier to climb the steps than on a regular path - either way, it looks attractive!

View from Sokolica

Highlight • Viewpoint

Sokolica, at an altitude of 1,367 meters, is actually an observation deck above a cliff with views of Babia Góra and Zawoja. It's impressive and has inspired artists for years.

Oh, and there's a bench too.

Gówniak

Highlight • Summit

Gówniak is a beautiful mountain in the Babia Góra range, at an elevation of 1,644 meters above sea level. That's high. To the west is Diablak, the highest peak of Babia Góra.

But where does the unfortunate name "Gówniak" come from (if you speak Polish, you know what I'm talking about!)? It turns out that many oxen once grazed on the slopes of Babia Góra, and the mountain takes its name from their abundant droppings...

Babia Góra (Diablak)

Highlight • Summit

If you're going to Babia Góra in the summer, take clothes for the peak as for autumn. If you're going to Babia Góra in the autumn, take clothes for the peak as for winter. If you're going to Babia Góra in the winter, take clothes for the peak as for... Antarctica. You're welcome ;)

PTTK Markowe Szczawiny mountain hostel

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Good shelter on a glade at an altitude of 1,180 m above sea level. Beautiful views of Sokolicę, Gówniaka and Diablaka. There is food and drink, and you can stay overnight - life is good.

Also check out their website, where they show you which peak is which in a photo - very helpful!

Climbing Babia Góra at sunrise (5:00) starting around midnight.
The feeling of tiredness after the ride disappeared about an hour after arriving. I started with soreness after running the previous day, but it wasn't a noticeable problem.
We didn't know our pace for this approach, we were in a hurry to get to the top - we covered the route …

Today I climbed the highest mountain in the Beskids.
It was quite a challenge (and exhausting) 😂.
P.S.: The speed rating is incorrect (it would be nice if it were). The network was often quite poor.
