Church of Santa María

Highlight • Religious Site

Santa Maria de Caldes de Montbui is the parish church of this municipality, in the Vallés Oriental. It is in the center of the urban area, at the southern end of the historic center, right where the Portal de Barcelona used to be. In front of the main door of the church the Plaza de la Iglesia opens, on the north side the Calle de Roma and the Plaza del Olmo. On the west and southeast side, the church overlooks a small square above the timba of the Caldes stream.

The current church of Santa Maria occupies the place where, until the end of the Middle Ages, the Royal Palace stood.

Caldes de Montbui

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Font del León is a centenary monument located in the central square of the town, named after the fountain. It has always been a symbol of identity and mystery, both for the hot springs and for the fact that the great stream of water that comes out of the mouth of a stone lion has never stopped flowing. It comes out with a very abundant and constant flow, and at a temperature of 74 ° C.

According to a 1923 health report, these waters have mineral-medicinal properties, because they are hyperthermal and contain chlorine, sodium, lithium, bromine and iodine, among others. Thanks to their therapeutic properties, they are indicated to fight various diseases, especially to relieve skin, bone and respiratory conditions.

Chapel of Santa Susanna

Highlight • Religious Site

Santa Susanna de Caldes de Montbui is a chapel in Caldes de Montbui (Vallès Oriental) protected as a cultural asset of local interest.

Chapel with a single nave or single floor. In its beginnings it had a cruise at the entrance and not at the end as usual. It is attached to the wall of Can Rius and the Museum of History or former hospital. Formerly on one side of the cruise there was a small raised gallery which was entered through the spa.

The structure is the traditional masonry load-bearing walls in buildings of this type (chapels), with the structure of the wooden roof.

The composition of the main or west facade is very simple, with a central axis of symmetry. Despite the numerous modifications throughout history, it is still possible to identify the structure of the wall and the device. The device is of small dimensions and simple factory.
