View of Science World

Highlight • Monument

Science World (officially called TELUS World of Science Vancouver since 2005) is a science center-style museum featuring permanent and rotating interactive exhibits.

The museum is housed in a geodesic dome designed by Richard Buckminster Fuller at the eastern end of False Creek. The dome was one of the main attractions of Expo 86 and was subsequently renovated for CAD 19.1 million. The museum opened in 1988, and a year later, an omnimax theater was added in the dome's upper section.

On July 20, 2005, the museum adopted its current name after the Canadian telecommunications company Telus donated CAD 9 million and acquired the naming rights. The new name has been met with public disapproval. The old name is far more familiar, and the nearby SkyTrain station also retains its name, Main Street-Science World.

False Creek

Highlight • River

False Creek is a narrow bay in the heart of Vancouver. The bay separates the West End and Downtown neighborhoods from the rest of the city to the south. Pedestrian and bike paths allow you to walk along the bay, past several small city parks and under impressive steel bridges that span False Creek.
