Hard road ride. Very good fitness required. Mostly well-paved surfaces and easy to ride. The starting point of the route is accessible with public transport.

Can I just pass on that the cycle network in Bolzano is very well developed 👍🏻
We came from Merano and drove a few kilometers through Bolzano. Great cycle network but you don't have to see the city at least the way to the market square wasn't necessarily nice.

Bolzano

Nice stop on the way to the south. And if you do not want to stop: on the cycle path along the Adige river, you can get through the whole city with only one traffic light. Exemplary!

Highlight • Historical Site

The Villa Bittner or Villa Degischer in Kohlern was built in 1896 and was the summer residence of the Bolzano master builder Sebastian Altmann.

The cable car takes visitors from Kampenn near Bozen to the 1,100 m high Kohlerer Berg, more precisely to the village of Kohlern, and overcomes an altitude difference of 835 m. The cable car was opened in 1908, which makes it the oldest free-floating cable car in the world: Back then, financed by the Bozen innkeeper Josef Staffler, it was supposed to take guests to the Kohlern mountain. It opened a month before the Wetterhorn elevator in Switzerland.

The view from the cabins and from Kohlern itself is wonderful and includes not only the city, but also the high plateau of the Renon and Salten as well as the surrounding peaks. In 2006 it was renovated and new cabins installed: today they usually take 20 people every half hour and bring them to Kohlern in five minutes. Once at the mountain station, numerous hiking trails await visitors. As an alternative to the mountain railway, a 9 km long curvy and rather narrow road leads up to the village.
