Steep Gravel Descent from Alfoxton Park to Kilve

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Short, steep, and sweet, I had a hoot going down this on my 32mm tyres! It was dry enough to only be rocky when I rode this in June, so picking a line through was pretty straightforward. Best served with meaty tyres with a side of hydraulic discs.

Holford Village

Highlight • Settlement

The Quantock Hills are home to many gorgeous villages and Holford is a perfect example. Inhabited since the Iron Age, the village feels like is hasn't changed in hundreds of years. Thatched cottages, a huge water wheel and a beautiful church all conspire to make Holford postcard-perfect.

On the outskirts of the village is Alfoxton hotel (no longer a hotel) where Wordsworth lived temporarily. The Plough Inn, at the northern end of the village, is ideal for lunch.

Holford Old Kiln House

Highlight • Historical Site

This is where part of the video was filmed for 'that' Bryan Adams song.
Was very overgrown and unable to get closer due to it being privately owned but can see it from the road at the top

Coleridge Cottage

Highlight • Historical Site

This cottage was home to Romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge for three years from 1797. Whilst residing at the 17th-century cottage, Coleridge penned some of his finest works, including 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner', 'Kubla Khan', 'Frost at Midnight', 'Christabel', and 'This Lime Tree Bower my Prison'. Iconic Lakeland poet William Wordsworth visited Coleridge here and thus the literary movement of Romanticism was born. These days, you can explore the rooms in the cottage, set up as Coleridge had it, and the wildflower garden.
