Peebles Clock Tower and Old Bridge

Highlight • Monument

Peebles is a gorgeous Scottish Borders market town on the banks of the River Tweed. It's popular with tourists, both for sightseeing and other activities, including fishing on the river, hiking on the nearby hills and mountain biking at the nearby trail centre of Glentress.

The town is also well known for its creative residents, hosting an annual art festival, as well as multiple galleries and museums to visit. Well worth a visit if you're in the Borderlands or for a day trip from Edinburgh.

Don't miss the impressive 15th-century stone bridge near the centre, once known as the main crossing of the River Tweed.

Innerleithen XC Trail

Highlight • Forest

The red-graded XC trail is fairly short but not to be taken lightly!

A lung-burning switchback climb right from the start to lead you through the trees up to the top of Minch Moor.

Some great singletrack descents with a few black options bring you to the Caddon bank descent with its drop offs, berms and rollers.

Well worth the effort for the views from Minch moor and a great trail to test your skills on.

River Tweed

Highlight • River

The River Tweed, or Tweed Water (Scottish), is a river 97 miles (156 km) long that flows east across the Scottish Borders and into northern England. Tweed is an Old Celtic name meaning "border" and tweed cloth derives its name from its association with the river, on account of the hundreds of mills powered by the river at one time. The Tweed is one of the great Salmon rivers of Europe and generates a large income for the local Borders region, attracting anglers from all around the world. It is one of the best Salmon rivers in Scotland.

Blue Bridge over the River Tweed

Highlight • Viewpoint

Crossing the river, you have a great view from the bridge. A little stop is worth it here, so you can enjoy the picturesque view of the river floodplain.

There are some nice views along the riverside pathway. Be careful turning off the bridge back onto the path, it can be slippy when wet . I had to put my foot down when the bike slid away.

Cardrona Pump Track

Highlight • Rest Area

Cool pump track on the cycle path between Peebles and Innerleithen just on the edge of Cardrona. There's a small shelter here too so you can chill between sessioning. Especially tricky when it's windy!
