Skiddaw House Hostel

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Skiddaw House youth hostel is often referred to as the most remote house in England, as it is a 3-mile (5 km) walk from the nearest road. Situated at 1,542 feet (470 m) and nestled between Skiddaw, Blencathra and Great Calva, it is a glorious location and an ideal basecamp for adventures in the Northern Fells.

Dash Falls

Highlight • Natural Monument

Dash Falls are a series of cascades, as the Dash Beck tumbles between the shoulders of Great Calva and Bakestall. It's a conspicuous sight on this part of the Cumbria Way.

The legendary fellwalker, illustrator and guidebook writer Alfred Wainwright remarked that 'there are many finer individual waterfalls in Lakeland, but for a grand succession of falls the first place must undoubtedly go to Dash Falls.'

Carrock Fell Road

Highlight • Cycleway

An absolute dream stretch of road that's above the tree line with expansive views.

The road surface suffers during the winter months, so it's not always advisable unless you're on a more robust bike. Gorgeous during spring and autumn with wild flowers.
