The narrow streets leading up from the quay area get very congested with pedestrians in the holiday season and are best avoided on a bike.

Highlight • Settlement

A fabulous square in Wells, with multiple great pubs. The Globe is our favourite, with a great beer garden and an excellent menu. Every trip to Wells should include Buttlands and the Globe.

Warham Camp Iron Age Hill Fort

Highlight • Viewpoint

Warham Camp is an impressive Iron Age hill fort. Although you could easily mistake the circular mound for a UFO landing site, it was in fact constructed before the Roman invasion as a defence. The hill is very well-preserved and is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest. You can visit the chalk grassland via footpaths, look out for rabbits and cattle along the way.

Highlight • Rest Area

The Quay at Wells is the focus of activity for this pretty little town. The Harbour has been a port for over 600 years, today used mostly by small fishing vessels and also as an RNLI Lifeboat Station.

You'll find great seafood restaurants on the quay (and classic seaside fish and chips!) as well as nice cafes to stop for a coffee.
