Brewpub Mühlengrund (Manorial Tavern No. 4)

Highlight • Pub

In 1225, the monastery was built in Wienhausen and has since largely shaped the place. It is the most important monastery in the heath and definitely worth a visit.

Located in the historic center of Wienhausen (5 minutes walk from the monastery) is the brewery Mühlengrund. The first mention of the house can be found in 1589 as "Herrschaftsliches Krughaus Nr. 4". It is therefore one of the oldest buildings in Wienhausen and is of course a listed building. Since the turn of the century, the house is a fully gastronomic operation, which has continued to evolve.
Since 1997, the inn has housed the "smallest mobile brewery in the world" (Guinness Book of Records 1997).

Meanwhile, the house and of course its beer called "Wienhäuser Naturtyp" is known far beyond the regional borders.

Wienhausen Watermills

Highlight • Monument

Wienhausen is widely known for its magnificent monastery. But those who come to the monastery on the driveway via the Mühlenkanal should also take a look at the two mill buildings there. A mill is already mentioned in Vienna in 1351. Until the Reformation she belonged to the monastery Wienhausen, then she came to the Landesherschaft. However, the current mill building on the right bank of the Mühlenkanal dates from 1591. It is a single-storey half-timbered building with a variety of decorative forms. End of the 18th century On the opposite bank, a new multi-storey mill building was built. The old mill was saved from ruin by a restoration in 1837 and henceforth served as a sawmill, warehouse and living quarters. Since 1906 the Wienhäuser flour mill with turbine drive worked. But also the old mill received a turbine in 1908: A power station was set up in the old building, which served until 1956 the place. Since the end of the 1960s, it serves as a town hall. In 1962, the flour mill ceased operations. In the 1980s, the building was renovated and has since served as a home, studio and workshop, while a turbine generates electricity.

Bell Tower of St Mary's Church, Wienhausen

Highlight • Religious Site

The structural beginnings of the Church of St. Mary are obscure. However, old documents show that the church held an important position in later years after its founding. The free-standing bell tower, which was built some distance away, has been in use since the 15th century.

The Trauhaus in the old center of Wienhausen

The small half-timbered building used today as a Trauhaus, there on its enchanted island between the two arms of the Mühlenkanal in the middle of the old Wienhäuser town center, has a varied history behind it.

The exact date of construction is unknown. It is believed, however, that it should come from the period around 1850 and was initially used as storage. However, it is certain that it was dismantled around the year 1900 from its former location in Wathlingen and implemented in Wienhausen. His inconspicuous-looking building finally got its current, and hopefully now-used, location in 1978. Volksbank Wathlingen played a large part in the realization of the project.

Since May 1, 1997 is located in a romantic setting the mews of the velvet community Flotwedel. Bridesmaids who want to tie the knot for life can do so outside the usual opening hours. So if you have decided to give the yes-word for the covenant of life in the romantic convent community Wienhausen, then the small Trauhaus will surely become the starting point of unforgettable hours and a happy common life.

Since October 2021, the complete reconstruction of the surrounding area and the weir (renaturalization) has been finished, and the Aller Cycle Path is open again!

The route of the Aller Cycle Path has been altered in this area due to the renaturalization. The "old weir" no longer exists in its original form!

Aller Weir at Osterloh

Highlight • River

Demolition of the Osterloher Allerwehr Weir: Since the previous route of the Allerradweg would have been interrupted with the breakthrough in the old arm, a bridge was also built over the new course of the watercourse as part of the work. It is now possible to experience the development and renaturation of running water on the Aller up close via them and the newly created footpath and cycle path.
