Signal Rock (Tóin na Gráinne / Tom a' Ghrianain — The Rock of the Sun)

Highlight • Natural

Signal Rock was where Glen Coe's Clan MacDonald would gather to listen to their clan chief and to converse about the issues of the day. It has also been said that this outcrop was the place where the Campbells lit a fire in order to signal the start of the Massacre of Glencoe on 13th February 1692. However, this claim has never been proven, though it does reveal the origin of its name.

An Torr

Highlight • Natural

An Torr, at just over 165 feet (50 m), is a modest high point in the mixed woodland near the legendary Clachaig Inn. Tree cover means the views aren’t as extensive as they could be but there are a few fine viewpoints where the vegetation is less dense. It is often linked with the nearby Signal Rock, an outcrop with links to the Glencoe Massacre of 1692.

Viewpoint: Hagrid's Hut filming location

Highlight • Historical Site

From this point up the hill you have the best view of the spot where Hagrid’s hut used to be in several scenes in Harry Potter. Just to be clear, there is no hut ;-)

Clachaig Inn

Highlight • Pub

The legendary inn serves good food all day long. Local game dishes, Scottish beef and Scottish salmon. But vegetarian dishes are also offered.

October 12, 2021,Signal Rock und An Torr (Glen Coe)
This tour leads to "Signal Rock", which is said to have been the place where the government troops under the command of Robert Campbell of Glenlyon gave the order to attack the local MacDonald clan. Today the rock is surrounded by forest. "An Torr" is also on the round. There is a wonderful view of the Clachaig Gorge here.
